Musical Mondays from Diller-Quaile

We know screen time looks different for every family, so we have done our best to provide you with an array of content in different formats.  This way each activity can be used with or without a screen, and you can find the best fit for your children.  Please enjoy the links below to help support creative activities at home.

1. Instrument Play – The weather has been touch and go lately, but here’s an activity you can do at home to break up the time and make the most of it.  We’re going to create our own rain soundscape!  Play along with Rain Rain, Go Away, with whatever you have in the house – shakers, metal utensils, wooden spoons – raid the kitchen!  You can simulate the short and choppy staccato sounds of raindrops.

2. Movement Game – Parents, here’s a video for you to move along with your children at home.  Follow along with me and James to one of our favorites, Spirit Song.  If you don’t want to use the video feel free to use this audio link.

3. Art Time – Lawrence’s art activity for this week is a shimmery moon to go with your sun picture from last week. Below are the supplies you will need.

    1. White or light yellow paper cut into crescent moon or a large white circle
    2. Crayons/Markers
    3. White paint mixed with a few tablespoons of glue
    4. Stickers
    5. Aluminum Foil (and/or construction paper) cut into squares and rectangles
    6. String

The key to the beautiful art projects at Diller-Quaile is the exploration and layering of materials. Begin with the same technique from last week – drawing with crayons or makers on the blank circle or crescent paper. Once your child is almost finished, give them stickers to add to this base layer. Next, paint on top of the drawing with the glue/paint mixture, and finish by collaging with foil/construction paper. Your child can also paint on top of the foil/paper pieces to create an interesting texture to their artwork. Once all these steps are complete you will have a shimmery moon to hang with your sun. Punch a hole at the top of the paper and lace the stain through to hang from wherever you please!

 5. Read Brown Bear, Brown Bear with Stephanie and Walter!
