This week brought hope in our resilient city. Our daily normal is changing every day, so much is out of our control. One thing we can do is bring a moment of peace, joy and happiness into our lives with beautiful music. We hope your families and teachers enjoy these music activities this week!
Below is our Musical Mondays message. We hope that each of these musical activities bring happiness and joy into your home this week.
- Listening Exercise– This week please enjoy listening to another beautiful jazz classic, Waltz for Debbie, written by Bill Evans, performed by Diller-Quaile pianist Eri Yamamoto
- Movement Game – In class, part of our musicianship time is spent learning and embodying different sets of musical opposites. Children, show your families how we move our bodies to reflect the changes in the music! Below you will find the musical exercises for 2 sets of opposites: legato/staccato (smooth/choppy) and presto/lento(fast/slow). Play these audio recordings for your child to move around the house to the music.
-
- Piece #1: Forte/Piano – Tchaikovsky. Piece #2: Presto/Lento – Bach
- What a Wonderful World Book with Stephanie & Walter
- Sing along to Sansa Kroma with Marissa. Once you know the words, sing with Peter’s piano!
- Instrument Play– Start Play and Play as a warm up for the children. You can use body percussion (clapping, tapping your knees, stomping etc.) or shakers if you have them in the house. In preparation of Earth Day approaching, try playing along with our recording of The Earth is Our Mother. You can take turns playing and listing to the beat and rhythms in the different songs combined together. Do they have the same beat or different? How are the songs the same? How are they different?
